My Web Development Setup, Windows version

As a web developer, you work better if you work station or laptop is setup the way you like and today I would like to share to you my web development setup on both Windows XP and Ubuntu since I use both operating system depending on the situations, for now I’ll be posting about my
Windows XP web development setup.

You might ask why am I still using Windows XP, well to be honest, Windows Vista is too resource heavy for me and I’m not sure all the softwares would run on Vista.

Here are my list of softwares needed when I’m doing web developing on Windows XP:

XAMPP Lite
XAMPP has been my choice for local server package and take note I’m using the Lite version of XAMPP because it can be move anywhere on your PC or into an external hard drive without the hassle because it is not installed within the Windows system unlike the regular XAMPP setup.

Activestate Komodo Edit development editor
I’ve been through several development editors but Komodo Edit has been my IDE of choice aside that its an open source, majority of its features are the same with its propriety counterpart which is the Komodo IDE. Komodo Edit is also a cross-platform software which means it can be installed on any major operating systems like Windows, Mac, Linux and BSD.

Paint.NET
Paint.NET has been my choice when I’m doing web graphic optimization and editing since this software most emulates Photoshop despite lacking great effects and filters.

Firefox with Firebug, Web Developer and IE Tab Add-ons

Firefox’s flexibility is the reason why more developers are using it because the add-ons. Firebug has been the most useful of the add-ons because of its ability to debug HTML, CSS and Javascript codes "live" without actually changing the codes itself. I use Web Developer Add-on to test for broken links and others bugs on my work.. IE tab is great add on in which I can view my work on Internet Explorer with actually running IE.
